Leather Care

Leather care detailing guide Fresh Start Auto Detail

Leather can be one of the most striking features of your car, but not without properly caring for it. Fortunately, it takes very little time to maintain your leather.

A few helpful pointers

>While vinyl is different from leather, you can generally use these instructions to care for any vinyl surfaces as well.

>You can apply leather conditioning as much or as little as you want, but doing so 1-4 times per year will help give you sustained results.

Fresh Start Pro Info ✔While all purpose cleaner works well on leather, a dedicated leather cleaning product can offer increased effectiveness and a more gentle effect on your surfaces. ✔Leather conditioning is very similar to interior trim conditioning and can be used interchangeably in many cases. ✔Light colors such as white or beige leather tend to show a lot of wear and tear over time. A dark brown or black leather will generally hold up better in the long run.

How to care for your leather

01

Use a brush and all purpose cleaner to clean the leather

If your leather is only mildly soiled, you can easily use a detailing brush, plush towel, and some all purpose cleaner (or dedicated leather cleaner) to clean your seating surfaces

03

Leather Ceramic Coating [optional]

If you would like to protect your leather seats to the fullest extent possible, you can opt for a ceramic coating that will provide 1-2 years of durable protection on the surfaces. The ceramic protection guards against blemishes or stains, and can help with resale value in the future.

02

Condition

While leather is very luxurious to have in your car, it is prone to fading and cracking over time if neglected. A high quality leather conditioning product will act as a "sun screen" for your leather and keep it hydrated and looking its best. Simply lather in your preferred conditioning product with a plush towel, and coat the entire surface.

04

Steam cleaning [optional]

If you have really dirty leather seats with stains on them, you should use a steam cleaner to clean the seats instead of a brush. Steam is safe to use on leather and is very efficient at cleaning beyond surface layer dirt and grime.
